behind the curtain

I think ambidextrously—exercising both left brain objectivity and right brain subjectivity. Logical and intuitive, rational and holistic, I combine my passion for art and technology in every facet of my work.

I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a B.S. in English, specializing in Technical Writing, in 1998. Within a year of graduation, I realized that I enjoyed designing the software manuals I was assigned to write more than actually writing them. I then shifted focus to pursue a career in graphic and website design in 1999.

Other than the odd graphic design course through the UC Berkeley Extension program, I’m entirely self-taught in all things web—from purely hand-coded, standards-compliant HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery to PHP and MySQL web application development. A lifelong learner, there’s no challenge that I won’t face head on.

I play an active role in the San Francisco Bay Area design community and served on the board of the San Francisco chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design, as Communications Co-Chair from 2006 to 2012.

I launched Gore Creative in 2005 with the goal of providing agency-level graphic design and web development services to small businesses, non-profits, artists and individuals.

I live (and work) in Alameda, California, a walkable island city in the San Francisco Bay, with my husband and our cat, Merle. I like to balance my time staring at screens with staring at the sky. I love to read, hike, bike, take photographs and knit. I also have a healthy TV habit and am subscribed to over 70 podcasts. I was born and raised in Georgia and the south still thrums in my soul. I make a mean fried chicken, a strong cocktail, and if you listen closely when we talk, you may hear that southern lilt.
